Ben and Joshua Safdie were born in New York City. They began making movies at a young age, inspired by their film-enthusiast father. They attended Boston University, where they co-founded the creative collective Red Bucket Films. They collaborate closely with each other on many projects. In 2007 brothers have made their feature debut film A Pleasure of Being Robbed. The film premiered at SXSW in March 2008. It also played at the Cannes sidebar Directors' Fortnight. A second feature film, co-directed by Josh and Benny, Go Get Some Rosemary premiered at Cannes and won the Cassavetes Award at the 2011 Independent Spirit Awards.

Claudette Godfrey is the Film Festival Coordinator and Shorts Programmer for the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival in Austin, Texas. A University of Texas Film graduate, Claudette has also worked as a Corporate Relations Coordinator at the CineVegas Film Festival and is a Programming Assistant at the Alamo Drafthouse's Fantastic Fest.

Mike Cahill was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1979. After high school, Cahill studied economics at Georgetown University, graduating in 2001. While a student there he formed a close relationship with professional colleague and friend Brit Marling and the two began working on short films together where Marling would act and Cahill would direct. While still in his senior year at Georgetown, Cahill began interning with National Geographic Television and Film, soon becoming their youngest field producer, editor and cinematographer.He and Marling collaborated on Boxers and Ballerinas (2004), an exploration of the U.S.–Cuba conflict through the lives of four characters, while living in Cuba. Cahill next moved to Los Angeles. There he was taken on as editor for two Sundance features, Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man (2005) and Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out (2006). Another Earth is Cahill’s debut feature film.
